We start every morning with our Morning Meeting. The students take turns leading us. They are excellent teachers already!
The students use what they learn during that meeting to complete their activity.
This week we started Daily 5. This is a way to create responsible independent learners in charge of their learning.
We discussed the three ways to read a book.
We learned how to shop for Good Fit books for our book bins using I-Pick.
We learned about our first Daily 5 choice, Read to Self.
This is us practicing Read to Self.
We discovered that some of us like to hear ourselves read so we use Toobaloos so that we don't disturb others when we Read to Self.
We learned about our second Daily 5 choice, Read to Someone.
We learned how to pick a reading partner for Read to Someone.
We learned how to check for understanding while we Read to Someone.
We learned how to support our partner reader by asking if they need time or coaching and added these book marks to our book bins to help us remember.
We learned to sit EEKK style for Read to Someone.
We added our first reading strategy to our Cafe Menu.
We will continue to add reading strategies to our Cafe Menu as the year progresses.
In math we continued to work on labelling, extending and creating patterns.
We also did our first number of the day activity.
We completed our first Train Your Brain Thursday problem solving question and learned some important steps to follow to help us solve problems.
We discovered that most students would like pizza for lunch but almost as many are perfectly happy with the kind of lunch they bring to school each day.
In religion we talked about friendship and read stories about friends.
In health we discussed what makes us unique and special.
We finished our David pictures that we started last week after reading "David Goes to School".
In art we made beautiful colourful creations with markers and water. We watched the magic when we mixed the markers on the paper with water.
I wasn't able to share these last week as I didn't have permission from everyone to post pictures but this week I do, so please enjoy these grade two smiles!
Bring on week 3!
