Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don’t give only your care, but give your heart as well –Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Week 16!

This week we celebrated Misi as our star student.
Misi can speak two different languages and would like to be a dance teacher when she grows up.
We also celebrated Misi's hard work on Lexia over the Christmas break!
The students learned to draw a star, then labelled nouns, adjectives and verbs.  They used  these words to create sentences about stars.  Then we read this wonderful story about a very important star.
We reviewed Jenny Jaguar and read a story about a juggler because Jenny likes to juggle.
We also worked on more puzzles to reinforce some of the words we read this week that used the sounds of j and k.

We read this familiar story and identified all the rhyming words.  We then wrote our own versions using our own rhymes.
At the end of the week we reviewed Kimmy Kangaroo and read this lovely story about a special kiss because Kimmy likes to give kisses.

In gym this week we worked on our hockey skills.

Justine shared a box of very special gifts to celebrate the Epiphany.  In the box was gold, frankincense and myrrh.  These are the gifts that the wise men brought for the baby Jesus.
In math we worked on doubles basic facts.
Many grade two students would like to learn more about cooking.
We are still working on our banana split math facts and we are very close to earning our chocolate scoop.
If your child is struggling with their math facts, playing card games that provide opportunities to add and subtract are a fun way to learn and practice.

On Thursday we took a trip to Iqaluit to learn about Inuit culture.
We used small rocks to build and inukshuk.  We learned that it is not an easy job!
We learned about the Inuit language of Inuktitut.  There letters look very different from the letters we know!
We made a baby inukshuk from soapstone.  We knew just what to do because of our soapstone activity before Christmas.
 We learned about Inuit beliefs.
We learned about wildlife and daily life in the North.

Do you know what this?  Ask a grade two student and they can tell you.

Thank you to all our volunteers who made this presentation possible.
During one of the many indoor recesses this week a few of the students build this amazing structure.

We are hopeful that the weather will be a bit warmer in the coming week so that we can spend some time outside in the fresh air.  Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately with hat, mittens, snow pants, boots and warm coat.
We will be leading the assembly in the gym on Monday morning at 9:00am  Please feel free to join us.
