Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don’t give only your care, but give your heart as well –Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Week 20!

The February classroom calendar has been post on the school website at http://stj23school.eics.ab.ca/index.php/teachers-pages/74-lesley-holt

Terrific job Lexia kids!
We earned our whipped cream for our banana splits this week!  We're now working on earning our sprinkles.
We learned that the groundhogs couldn't agree so we are hopeful for an early spring.

We had a wonderful buoyancy and boats presentation.
We learned about the best shapes that move through the water effectively.
We learned about objects that float and sink.
We tested cork boats and discovered that a keel helps them float straight up in the water.
We learned about stability and the best way to carry cargo.
 We sanded our paddle boats.
We tested the stability of different kinds of boats.
We made plasticine boats and tested different shapes to see what floated and carried cargo the best.
We waterproofed our boats with wax.
We sorted things that float or sink.
We were very engaged throughout our busy morning.
Here are our finished paddle boats.
Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers without whom we wouldn't have been able to have such a worthwhile experience.

We enjoyed a basketball clinic.

Report cards came home this week.  Please have your child identify two areas that they are proud of and one area that they would like to work on.

We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th with a small class celebration in the afternoon.  Students can exchange valentines if they wish and can bring a small snack for themselves to enjoy during our celebration.  A class list has been emailed for your convenience.
